Most owners are overpaying to take cards.
Statements are written to be hard to read — that’s not an accident. Send Dave one and he’ll tell you your real effective rate and what it could be instead.

There’s more than one way to cut the cost
Which one suits you depends on your ticket size, your customers, and your state. Dave will tell you which — and which to avoid.
Cash discount
A posted cash price and a card price. Customers who pay cash pay less; your processing cost drops close to nothing.
Surcharge
A compliant fee added at checkout on card payments only. Rules vary by state and card brand — Dave will tell you if it fits.
Interchange-plus
You pay the true card-network cost plus one transparent markup. No tiers, no bucket games, no surprise reclassifications.
What your customers actually see
Whichever program you land on, it runs on a terminal — and the terminal is the part your customers touch. Clover and Dejavoo are two of the platforms Dave places owners on. Here’s what the programs above look like from the other side of the counter.

A surcharge your customer can read
The worry about surcharging is never the arithmetic — it’s whether people feel ambushed at the till. On a compliant setup they don’t. The fee is disclosed on screen before the card is tapped, named as what it is, and identical on every card brand.
On the screen, before they tap
Sale total $45.66 — includes $0.40 merchant credit card surcharge.
A cash-discount setup shows two posted prices instead, and the customer picks. Same goal, different mechanics.
Surcharging isn’t permitted in every state, or on every card type. Dave checks yours before he recommends it — and if it doesn’t fit, one of the other two programs will.

Takes the payment to the customer
A handheld with real keys and a printer in it — the order goes to the table, the chair, or the back of the truck, and the receipt comes out there too. It takes EBT as well, which matters if you sell food.

Fits where the old box sat
A countertop unit for a fixed till — chip, tap, and phone wallets, in roughly the footprint you already gave up to your current terminal.
Clover is a registered trademark of Fiserv, Inc. Equipment shown for illustration — what Dave recommends depends on how your business takes payment.
